A must-have. This Kelly 32 by HERMES is two-tone in apricot-colored swift calfskin and Amazonia vegetable leather. The hardware is gold-plated. It has a padlock, pull tab and clochette and is lined in apricot swift leather with 2 patch pockets.
Princess Grace Kelly discovered this bag, then called Monaco, during the 1954 shooting of Alfred Hitchcock's film “La main au collet”. In 1956, she used the bag to conceal the pregnancy of her first child. The photo went around the world.
It wasn't until 1977 that it was officially renamed “Kelly”. It can be carried by hand with its leather handle, or on the shoulder with its removable shoulder strap.
The special feature of this bag is the bi-material of leather and Amazonia vegetable leather, a revolutionary process that makes perfect sense nowadays. The manufacturing process is kept secret.
For the record, Hermès teamed up several years ago with Indians from the Yawanawei tribe, who live in the Amazon rainforest. They are the ones who invented this vegetable leather, made from 100% natural rubber, hundreds of years ago. It's easy to mistake this material for leather.

Made in France, this bag dates from 1999. Measurements are as follows: length 32 cm x height 22 cm x depth 11 cm.
The original removable shoulder strap measures 89 cm. The bag is in very good used condition, with small marks underneath.
