CHANEL hat and scarf, the story of Coco Chanel and the Ritz Hotel.

Coco Chanel spent some time at the Ritz when she set up her Couture House in 1918, on rue Cambon in the heart of Paris's 1st arrondissement. The proximity of the hotel to her workshops made her a regular visitor. She moved in for a time after the death of Boy Capel, the love of her life, in the early '20s. In 1937, she took up permanent residence at the Hotel Ritz until her death in 1971.

Legend has it that the doorman never failed to notify the shops when she left her apartments, announcing her imminent arrival so that employees could diffuse her favorite perfume throughout the store: The perfume bottle Numéro 5.

She decorated her apartments at the Hotel Ritz with Chinese-inspired furniture and black lacquer screens.
To this day, the Hotel Ritz pays tribute to the designer with the “Coco Chanel” suite, which still bears her name.
The suite was moved to the hotel's 2nd floor after renovation work. It still reflects the designer's universe, a cocooning space with large sofas. Coco Chanel liked to say “the Ritz is my home”. In 2016, for the Métiers d'art “Paris Cosmopolite” fashion show held in Paris 1e, the venue chosen was a tribute to the designer: the salons of the prestigious hotel of her “Maison”.
